Can I lose all my money in crypto?
Crypto prices can move very quickly in either direction. A large fall can substantially reduce the value of an investment, and some cryptoassets can lose most or all of their value.
Why can crypto losses be so large?
Cryptoasset prices are highly volatile. They can rise or fall sharply, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to sell an asset at the price shown on this website.
A fall of 50% also requires a 100% rise from the lower price just to return to the original price. The larger the loss, the larger the percentage recovery needed to get back to where the price started.
Protection and financial advice
Some cryptoasset activities and investments may not be protected by the Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change.
